Text Box - Fix This broken

Hi

While trying to write a text box with a mix of static and dynamic values, I have run into an error that (currently) is preventing me from fixing the issue without starting from scratch!

See details: vague at best.

Fix This: Does nothing!

Anybody else experienced this or know how to recover from it?

Thanks in advance.
Oli

Hi @music43 ,

Yeah, I’ve run into this before — it usually happens when a dynamic field in the text box gets corrupted or loses its binding (especially after model changes or field renames).

Here’s what you can try:

  1. Don’t try to fix it inside the broken visual — that rarely works.
  2. Instead, delete the text box and recreate it from scratch. I know it’s annoying, but once the binding breaks, the visual often becomes unrecoverable.
  3. If you want to avoid this in the future:
    • Always double-check that the fields you're referencing in the text box still exist and haven’t been renamed or deleted.
    • Avoid using too many nested measures or calculated columns directly inside the text box — instead, reference clean, stable measures.

Also, if you’re using a preview feature like dynamic text in Power BI Desktop, make sure your version is up to date — some of these bugs have been patched in recent updates.

Let me know if you want help rebuilding the text logic.

Hi @burakkaragoz

Thanks for the heads up. You are correct that a couple of fild renames was the culprit!

I was able to partially recover the visual by copy/pasting the original and then editing the values under the reveiw section which has at least saved some time.

Many thanks 👍
