Issue with Bookmarks Disappearing After "Reset to Default"

Hello Power BI Community,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to see if anyone else has encountered a similar issue regarding bookmarks in Power BI, particularly when using the "Reset to default" feature.

Issue Description: I have noticed that when I click the "Reset to default" button on my report, the bookmark icon disappears. This behavior seems to be related to the use of the PBIR-format (based on this post Solved: PBIR Reports Losing Images and Formatting after "R... - Microsoft Fabric Community)

When I reset the filters, not only do the bookmarks seem to vanish, but I also experience issues with custom page background disappearing. Additionally, I have observed that the "Reset all filters" button does not function as expected after clicking it the first time and then making selections, which further complicates navigation within the report.

Currently, the solution is to refresh the browser, but this isn't a sustainable solution. I'm wondering if this is really related to PBIR or could it be something else?

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from the community!

Best regards,

Aksel

Hi  @akselmb

Thank you for using Microsoft Community Forum.

This issue is likely caused by a bug in Power BI Service, not the PBIR format specifically. To avoid it:

1.Use a custom "Reset" button:

  • Create a bookmark with your default view.
  • Add a button with action type "Bookmark" pointing to it.
  • Use this instead of the built-in "Reset to default".

2.Ensure bookmarks and backgrounds are saved in the published view:

  • Before publishing, apply your bookmarks and visuals.
  • Save and publish from .pbix with those settings active.

3.Clear browser cache and use updated Edge/Chrome if visuals still disappear.

If this information is helpful, please “Accept as solution” and give a "kudos" to assist other community members in resolving similar issues more efficiently.
Thank you.

Hi @akselmb

This is by design because the "Reset to Default" resets all the bookmarks, filters across all report pages and that is why you no longer see the bookmark.

Thanks for the reply, @GilbertQ! I understand that the "Reset to default" should reset filters, slicers and other data view changes the user has made, but to hide the bookmark-icon so the users aren't able to choose another bookmark or create new ones seems a little odd. If this is by design, I would argue that it is very confusing, especially when customized backgrounds are disappearing as well.

Hi @akselmb  I think it might be because of limitations or bugs associated with the PBIR-format reports or browser rendering after using the "Reset to default" feature. Ensure that all bookmarks and visuals are correctly saved and updated prior to publishing. Verify browser compatibility and clear cache to address potential rendering issues. If the problem persists, consider reporting it to Microsoft or switching to the .pbix format for better stability.

Thanks for the reply, @Akash_Varuna! I tried saving it as .pbix instead and uploaded to Service, but the problem is still there. I tried with both Edge and Chrome. So perhaps it isn't related to PBIR?
