Hi @mohaddis,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum. Additionally, thank you to @Fowmy, for his input regarding this issue. I have identified several alternative workarounds that may assist in resolving the thread.

Based on the error details provided (System.IO.FileLoadException related to Microsoft.PowerBI.ExploreHost.dll), it seems that Power BI Desktop is encountering an issue while loading a required component during startup. This is often caused by one of the following:

  • Corrupted or incomplete installation
  • Security software or OS blocking a DLL file
  • Damaged user cache or settings

Unblock Power BI Files: Navigate to the Power BI Desktop installation folder (typically located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Desktop\bin). Right-click on the folder and select Properties. If an "Unblock" checkbox appears at the bottom, check it and click OK.

Reinstall Power BI Desktop: Uninstall Power BI from Settings > Apps. Download the latest version (May 2025) from the official site and perform a fresh installation.

Clear Power BI User Cache: Close Power BI Desktop and delete or rename the following folders:

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop
  • %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop

Check Your Antivirus/Firewall: Ensure your antivirus is not blocking Power BI components. Add the Power BI installation folder to the allowed/trusted list if necessary. Verify that .NET Framework 4.8 or later is enabled in Windows Features.

Try these first, not sure what else was happening in you environment:

  • A simple restart can sometimes fix the issue by refreshing your system.
  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, missing updates can cause problems.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of Power BI installed. Sometimes, updating can fix issues.
